Sashiko embroidery is part of a traditional stitching culture in Japan. Practitioners use a simple running stitch to repeat an interlocking stitching pattern.
Sashiko was originally sued to quilt several layers of fabric together for warmth and durability (strengthening) in daily life. Nowadays, as cotton becomes more popular and less expensive to produce, Sashiko increasingly grows a handcraft as an art.
Our business at Hida-Sashiko began in 1975. Our mission continues to be passing this culture to next generations. In 2010, we began introducing Sashiko stitching culture outside of Japan. Sashiko embroidery is simple and appeals to people who enjoy arts, patchwork, quilting and all other forms of handcrafting.
